Fundamental Mind Theory (FMT)
After reviewing the evidence for mind at various scales of matter, we conclude that the most logical hypothesis is that mind must be a fundamental aspect of the universe. We further conclude that minds combine into more complex forms as matter combines into more complex forms. Fundamental Mind Theory (FMT) is a scientific hypothesis which resolves mysteries in science and philosophy that have existed for centuries. This page provides a summary of FMT that will evolve over time as the theory is refined. The complete theory is expected to be published as a joint sequel to our books in late 2027.
Cells communicate, collaborate, and solve problems - evidence of cellular scale cognition and agency that cannot be explained by existing science, which we view as evidence of cellular scale mind. Cells can also electromagnetically combine their minds to form the more complex minds of multicellular organisms. Our books provide a scientific foundation for our search for mind deeper in matter.
Asserting that minds can combine faces the classic "Combination Problem." Two solutions are proposed which use existing scientific theory to demonstrate that rudimentary minds can combine to form more complex minds. The only assumption required is that universal scientific laws that apply to matter and energy should apply equally to mind from the quantum scale to the human scale.
Scientists have found that even molecules inside cells can communicate, collaborate, and solve problems - evidence of molecular scale cognition and agency that cannot be explained by existing science, suggesting mind exists at the molecular scale. The subcellular world can best be understood as a society of molecular scale minds collaborating to keep their cellular ecosystem alive.
The central mystery in quantum physics is the "Observer Effect" where simply observing or measuring quantum scale matter influences the behavior of that matter. This mystery exists because quantum theory has not defined observation or measurement. By defining mind as an observer, FMT enables the collective mind of any matter structure to influence the behavior of its physical structure.
The quantum vacuum is the fundamental substrate of our universe. This highly energetic substrate grounds, powers & connects all matter and energy in the universe. Since FMT posits mind is fundamental, logic dictates the quantum substrate must also ground, power & connect all minds in the universe.
